Committed to society and its needs and understanding law as a tool for social change and modification of public policies, our firm is part of the co-founding committee of the Pro Bono Work and Public Interest Commission of the Bar Association of the City of Buenos Aires since 2001. This commission brings together lawyers with a social commitment to provide free legal services in cases of public interest.
In 2008 we signed the Declaration of Pro Bono Work for the American Continent (DPBA), an initiative that promotes access to justice throughout the Americas, committing ourselves to allocate a minimum of twenty hours of free legal advice per lawyer per year, with the same passion, standards, and ethical responsibility with which paid services are provided. Our firm supports this work and encourages more lawyers to participate in such matters.
O’Farrell was recognized on several occasions by Latin Lawyer and the Vance Center of NY as one of the outstanding firms in the “Pro Bono Leading Lights”, for its efforts in building a lasting social commitment infrastructure in the country.
One of the works our Pro Bono team has been entrusted with was a project named Addressing Gender-based Violence as an Obstacle to Women’s Economic Empowerment, where we had to conduct a survey based on research concerning the laws and regulations in Argentina regarding gender-based violence, gender equality, and women’s empowerment. This survey was part of a project conducted by the Vance Center for ProMujer, an organization that supports the economic development of women in Latin America.
